TermiSoc wants to kill you all
Rich Jeffery, President of TermiSoc - The Computing Media Society
21 January 2005
Oh, hello! My name's Rich. What's yours? Oh, good, good. Nice to meet you <insert name here>. I'm here to tell you about your sudden death.
You see, I want to kill you. And your friends, your acquintances, and just about everyone you know in the university. Why? Because you may well have a computer. And not just any computer either. A computer capable of playing networked 3D games. Even if you don't have one, we'll lend you one so we can kill you. Why? Because we want to enjoy blowing you up in games such as Quake 3, Halo and Counter Strike. Though, admittedly, we can cope with just defeating you in any other multi-player game of your choosing.
In fact, everyone in TermiSoc (The Computing Media Society) are very excited to tell you that we want to kill you because it only means one thing. That they're holding a LAN (Networked) Gaming Party, and you're all invited!
Yep, that's right. TermiSoc, those crazy fools who will give anyone 2GB of web-site space and an e-mail address for £5 a year by just asking, are planning to take over part of the City Campus Students' Union in March to do this. Even if you've never played a networked game before, you'll still bound to enjoy it. Also, at the end of the night, there will be an oppurtunity to win our very own TERMISOC LAN GAMING GOLDEN JOYSTICK! Oh, yes. Any fan of Games Master will remember that the Golden Joystick was the coveted prize for the best player. Well, as our final flourish, people will get the opportunity to win your very own Golden Joystick in a complete frag fest! (A frag, in case you don't know, is an expression of shooting a player dead in a first-person shooter).
But girls, before you write this off as a purely bloke's passion (and so won't even think about coming along), think about all that time your man spends on "that sodding games machine", and imagine your smile after you whoop him at it! Also, remember that 'Les Seules', an all-girl LAN Gaming team from Sweden, are thrashing many a guy's team in the US.(Check them out at ww.seules.dk)
Tickets are estimated at costing £7 for members and £10 for non-members, so watch out for more information!
However, I'm not just here to let you know about a gaming extravaganza. I'm here to tell you that TermiSoc wants YOU! For a mere £3 a year, you can join the society, get 500MB of web space (2GB for £5, as I mentioned), get free access to our fortnightly tutorials (which are £1 to non-members), join in helping on all the society projects, such as
- the Technical side of the UPSU Radio Station, which is in the process of starting as we speak,
- designing sites for Clubs, Societies, the union, etc.
- programming and designing games,
- becoming a part of MediaSpace, a site for the University's digital media,
- helping build an arcade machine,
- and much more!
In fact, if you have any ideas for Computing or Media projects that you'd like us to do, or wish to join us, just e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message in our pigeon-hole (which is in the Sports & Societies Office downstairs in the City Campus Students' Union).
See you later!
