Health Informatics (HI): what's all the fuss about?
Presented by Max Hughes
An introductory talk, which attempts to define
what Health Informatics actually is, what its aims are and how it relates to
other fields, e.g. Information technology and Health. Examples of what's going
on in the UK NHS will be examined, together with the views of the media on the
vast investment involved in modernising the public sector's health IT
infrastructure. Reference will be made to how industry is gearing up to face the
special challenges of this diverse field. In addition, there will be an overview
of how the BCS is supporting Health Informatics.
After the talk, which
should last around 30 minutes, there will be a chance to network with other
members and discuss new directions in HI. We hope to promote stronger links
between industry, academia and healthcare.
